AI, Artificial Intelligence has been part of the technological landscape for quite some time now, what has transformed is the Generative AI that has revolutionized everyone’s lives. Adopting GenAI, although a significant milestone, is only half the battle. AI powered automation and augmentation are underway currently across the world and is becoming increasingly prevalent. In essence, GenAI represents the next evolution of AI technologies, that learns from massive amount of data for learning and innovation. It has also provided prevention tips, attack scenarios and has provided detailed recommendations. These key vulnerabilities include Prompt Injection, Insecure Output Handling, Training Data Poisoning, Model Denial of Service, Supply Chain Vulnerabilities, Privilege Escalation, Sensitive Data Disclosure, Insecure Plugin Design, Model Theft, Brand Reputation Damage.

AI in Security:

Prior to GenAI, Machine Learning was inbuilt within Security technology for threat and fraud detection/correlation. GenAI is now increasingly becoming more and more prominent in security, aiding in threat detection, incident response, and risks reduction. While the full implications of AI capabilities within Security are still being evaluated, there are several ways AI is used that exhibit promising results.

  • Vulnerability Management:

    AI-integrated systems can quickly analyze large amounts of vulnerabilities detected by different tools in real-time to identify and alert on malicious activity. It can also prioritize and suggest an efficient remediation plan including auto remediation in some cases when enabled. When Azure AI is integrated with vulnerability results, it can generate a concise and prioritized plan to assist security or the respective application teams in building a robust plan. This helps streamline the process by identifying critical vulnerabilities and suggesting actionable steps to address them effectively. This association with AI-driven insights, guides the team who can then prioritize their efforts and focus on mitigating the most pressing security risks with additional details, thereby enhancing overall security posture.

  • Accelerated incident investigation:

    An incident occurs as a result of an attack, or any malicious or intentional actions by a perpetuator. There is a lot of data that must be collected, including the investigation from the origin, to collecting forensics, timeline, threat actors etc. This could be very time consuming and laborious effort, especially with a large and complex incident. AI can significantly enhance incident investigation by accelerating the process in terms of incident summarization, guided responses, determine root cause etc. AI powered Security technology empowers security teams to analyze incident, respond to threats and assess risk at machine speed within minutes.
